Niels Bohr's letter to the UN and talks with both Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill highlight the struggle between propigating technological knowledge and guarding it (in this case nuclear) which has led us to the point we are at now.

When most of the world's wealth lies not in physical ownership but rather in intagibles, these measures become necessary. They are weak and doomed to fail in the long run. It is living through such a system collapse which is difficult.
