Some of what he says is true. However the regulatory environment in canada seriously hampers banks ability to gamble with stocks and derivitives in the form of capital requirements. He also neglects to mention that without that capital investment there would be no factories, no stores, and the construction industry would virtually grind to a halt.
Also corporations in general are sitting are massive amounts of cash (effectively hoarding it). Until they have a reason to actually spend it on stuff nothing is going to happen. This has nothing to do with tax rates imo. Low interest rates, in theory are supposed to encourage this spending and this clearly isn't the case either.
Is everything the banks/financial industry doing ethical? most definately not. Are they entirely to blame for the current situation, I would argue no. What people don't realize is that by bailing out the system, they themselves have been indirectly bailed out. You knock out the financial system and you knock out everything else with it. It's interesting how certain culprits have successfully deflected blame away from themselves in all of this: there are plenty of other industries that get bailed out/shielded in north america as a whole that simply don't get the same kind of media attention.
