Why the PDM boxcar site appears to have possibly been deleted?

Marshall: our whol entire site. NO ONE's login or pass works, and guests who have limited access to PDM's site have had that access go missing. This has occurred in about the last 14 hours or so at a guess, given I was able to log in this morning. ergo, I can only assume that our site has been taken down by someone.

PDM accounts have no data attached to them. No Alliance, server, posts, medals etc. Just the data related to the post itself.

poof there goes your site, ugh that sucks had to make a lyric reference sorry. I am sure its just a data base error between boxcar being linked with earth empires on the same server. I am sure stuff can get lost even though it sucks!

Pang is at work right now so we won't know what happened till he gets home. He says it sounds like someone deleted all the user accounts, but he needs to see the database first before he can know for sure.

Red X: I am more inclined to believe that the PDM site has been targeted specifically because it is ONLY our site that has gone, and not anyone else's. if the issue was more widespread I'd be more inclined to think glitch.

I'm not getting login failures... I'm leaning toward a glitch. Usually you get a "loginfail" in the address bar when you mis-type your info. Any PDMers pointing fingers should reel them in right now. Hold up until we know what's going on people!

They have. According to Direstrike/Devestation:

Just checked the db, all the accounts are gone. i didn't do it, there's no paper trail, so something weird is happening.

i can restore them... but... this means YET MORE BAD THINGS being done by someone :p

I assume BoxCar itself logs when accounts are deleted (I would hope that accounts aren't actually deleted from the db, just "disabled")?

yes it does. i'll dig into the query logs when I can connect with qz

i'll have most of the accounts restored later this afternoon from my most recent backup regardless.

there's no speculation; the accounts are gone from the database. reasons are either bug, exploit or db abuse. i'd lean toward the first two over the final one based on how we set up the db access in the wake of the last DB abuse scandal :p

Yea that's what iZarcon and qz believe that it's a bug because of the security in place makes it hard to tamper with.

I comment about the speculating because your above posts can lead one to believe that something malicious has been done against PDM. I know there are many upset PDMers right now on the verge of quitting so we should proceed with sensitivity.

Because the culture of this community is already beyond retardedly fluff. When it starts to get malicious, that's when it's time to leave. Remember, the people playing in this alliance are real human beings. If someone actually hacked in and got upper level site access, or even just wanted to be an asshole, they could pull all our email addresses and our phone numbers.

If this attack turns out to be at all malicious, I'm done with the game, and I'm sure most of PDM will be as well.

We've gotten shat on every set for the last year. If this involves hacking or exploits at all, fluff this game.

But we'll see. It's hopefully just a bug that will get sorted.
