no kidding. Most micro transaction games do to one extent or another in an effort to get you to spend more money. This is a well known technique developed for VLTs and other electronic casino games. In many countries some of these techniques would be illegal to use in a casino but no such rules exist for these games. In a way this becomes worse than a casino since their payout to you is pretty much 0 once they've written the game.. no one gets $1 million prize.

I'm beginning to despise many tablet/cellphone games for this reason because they become impossible to enjoy for any period of time without constantly sucking your money. I would rather pay $10 or $20 up front for a game and then never be bothered for money again (or have a partial game free and pick and chose extra levels/scenarios/whatever to pay for for extra content such as plague inc).

I'm pretty sure that there is an algorithm in candy crush that determines what you get based on how many times/how long you have been playing and how much money you have spent on it. It probably determines some kind of optimal failure rate for you in order to maximize how much money it can get out of you.

Working around the bottlenecks these games build in is part of the fun. It can take a whole lot of patience but you develop your skills while doing it.

Buying a win I just don't understand.

The problem with "developing skills" is that the game doesn't reward intelligent play, it just fluffs you over and leaves you with a cake pop next to a stripey as you run out of turns and asks you to buy more turns. The dream world is worse.
